We know the list of Fiduciary responsibilities is long for plan sponsors and trustees when it comes to their company’s Retirement Plan, and we are here to help.

At Smart Investor, we partner with employers to manage their Fiduciary risk while protecting and educating their employees participating in the company’s Retirement Plan. As an ERISA 3(21) or 3(38) Fiduciary, our objective is to relieve Plan Trustees, Plan Sponsors, and Retirement Plan Committees of the Fiduciary liability associated with investment selection and monitoring decisions.

Types of retirement plans we currently manage:

  • 401(k) and other Defined Contribution Plans
  • 457(b) and other Deferred Compensation Plans
  • Defined Benefit, Cash Balance and other Company Pension Plans
  • GroupIRA Individual 401(k) Rollover Plans

Our independent and transparent Retirement Plan management process combines the following core principles to provide an independent, transparent and effective solution for our clients:

  • Fiduciary Governance

We guide our clients through the initial development of a prudent fiduciary process and assist them to maintain and document the process ongoing. Our team maintains a shared and secure electronic Fiduciary File for each of our Plans, allowing Plan Sponsors quick and simple access to documents such as the Summary Plan Document, Investment Policy Statement, Service Provider Agreements, etc.

  • Plan Design

We partner with Plan Sponsors to evaluate plan design holistically, with a focus on the aspects of design that have the greatest potential impact on both the plan’s overall effectiveness and participant success.

  • Model Portfolios

We collaborate with Plan Sponsors to design five custom model portfolios to provide a simple, risk-managed solution that ensures participants are invested per their time horizon, risk expectations, and investment objectives.

  • Participant Education

Our Advisors are boots-on-the-ground educators, working one-on-one with participants to improve their retirement readiness and make certain they are maximizing their available benefits.

  • Fee Benchmarking

We help our clients fulfill their ERISA duties to determine and document fee reasonableness by engaging in a voluntary, comprehensive, and third-party fiduciary benchmarking review of the Smart Investor and the Plan’s TPA and Recordkeeper.

  • Vendor Objectivity

With only the Plan’s interest in mind, we help our clients to find and decide upon appropriate service providers that match the unique needs of their Plan.
